AstraZeneca has struck a deal with Pfizer to buy the drug maker’s rights to the blockbuster heart drug Nexium.
The deal comes as Nexium, also known as Prilosec, has gained popularity in the United States, with analysts estimating that up to 40 percent of the U. S. population may be taking Nexium.
AstraZeneca, which has acquired the drugmaker’s patents, has already started selling the drug, which was approved in May and is expected to become the best-selling drug in the world in 2019.

Adults 18 years of age and over: Take 1 tablet daily for at least 7 days and up to 14 days. Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Not intended for immediate relief. It may take a few days to achieve maximum results. Do not take for more than 14 days unless directed by a doctor.
Do not use: - for children under 18 years of age - if allergic to esomeprazole - if allergic to any other proton pump inhibitor (omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole). Do not use on individuals under 18 years of age.
